Gesture Drawing with Clay

Introducing Trudy Skari, a Renaissance Woman, a Montana native, an incredibly intuitive artist. From her artist statement: “Like the visible spectrum the imaginal realm has a range that is just outside of the awareness to human senses but wide open to human insight, consciousness and our desire for making meaning.”

Pain, Patience and the Patient/Physician Relationship

On Labor Day, 2014 I began a new documentary-style photo essay in collaboration with Dr. Mark Ibsen who owns Urgent Care Plus in Helena, Montana. We are telling a story with photos of his patients, of Mark and of his staff. We aren’t sure what the story will be yet — that will come when we see what the photos are telling us. For now, I am going to be spending time at the clinic and with permission from the patients themselves, documenting their time with this passionate, compassionate healer.

1+1=1 Gallery is Moving – and having a Big Sale

Thank you to everyone who has become a collector of our art, who has come in to 1+1=1 Gallery to look, appreciate, help, buy, and just visit, get/give hugs. We couldn’t have done 11 months without you!
Now we are asking for your help and support again. This time we need cash flow to remodel our new gallery down the street. Purchase framed, numbered archival prints from our gallery during the month of September for 20% off. You can save between $70 and $140 and we raise money to help us fix up our new space. Cool!

The Color of Zero Degrees Cold

it takes a day like today:
wide open skies,
not a single cloud,
an almost
(imperceptible)
mist hanging close
to the frozen earth.

it takes this kind of day
to remember
how many different blues are inside the cold,
… how many
different
colors belong to white.

Snow. Is not. White.
(You knew that.)

A Prairie Sunset that Fills Me with Peace

I love the soft gradients of some sunsets. This kind of sunset is a quiet counterpoint to the wild, heavily textured sunsets we sometimes have. I like both kinds. This kind fills me with peace.
These two skies were on either side of me. The top photo is looking east in the evening twilight … then I turned around and shot the photo below, facing directly west.

Exciting New Thing for Us: a Pop-Up Gallery

We would be honored if as many of our Helena peeps as possible would come down to our little gallery during the art walk — or anytime from November 8th to December 8th. I’d love to see you and show you my work and Tim’s. You’ve been able to see both of our work online, and at the fall art walks for the past few years, but now is your chance to see alot more of it — in person

My Hometown: Color Hunt in the Rain

Even when Nature is putting on her less-brilliant winter colors, there is color if you know how to look. When the rain comes, go outside with your eyes and your camera — take a closer look at the subdued landscape and you’ll see a tapestry of brilliant colors. Here’s something I might have missed if I hadn’t been looking where I was stepping today.

My Hometown: Coil

I shot “Coil” in a pasture on the edge of town. I waited for the light to be just right so the colors of the rust and peeling paint would be their richest. Check back weekly for what I hope is an extra-ordinary view of an “ordinary” Montana town. I hope I can encourage you to see where *you* live with different eyes — and maybe you will go out with your camera and document your own neighborhood.
