Hey, Ginger -- you are right that we need to have good mechanisms for releasing anger. Violent video games, conflict between cultures/religions/political groups just don't cut it. At Florence Crittenton, each teen makes a Health & Wellness plan/contract ... one of the 5 aspects of wellness we focus on is emotional wellness. It's interesting to see some of the activities the girls choose to help them be emotionally well. Walks are big on their lists, as are the equine therapy and finding someone they can trust to talk it out with.
I love your last sentence: "good things rise out of the ash." That's SO true.

Speaking as a former single mother and a survivor of domestic violence, I can vouch for the anger these women must feel at times. To be given such a responsibility, often through no real choice of their own, at such a young age can't help but incite a tremendous volcano of destructive energy. Your metaphor works well. And like a volcano, this anger must be processed and released lest it seep and fester and poison the world around them. I think the hardest part of being in their situation is knowing what to do with your anger. How to express it in a way that won't harm anyone? Our society doesn't really have good mechanisms for the release of anger. It's so good to see that programs like this exist. That resources exist to help people build their lives into a positive place. Because good things rise out of the ash.
